Glass, the natural choice
Feeding a baby his first foods can be a highly rewarding experience, but it can also be stressful and frustrating at times. In an effort to understand more about the needs, concerns and preferences of mothers when it comes to baby foods, O-I has commissioned a global qualitative research study in ten worldwide cities, including London, Paris, Munich and Warsaw. read more...
Glass preserves freshness
Getting babies used to a variety of flavours is the best way of minimising "fussy eater" problems later on, so mums want to give their babies first foods that are as fresh, authentic and tasty as possible. They favour glass because it preserves the flavour, texture and aroma of food perfectly, and allows them to judge the authenticity of a jar’s contents before purchase.

The O-I global study reveals an interesting contradiction. Many of the new "organic" products (found in countries such as the UK) – purchased for their pure, healthy contents – are packaged in plastic pots, which European consumers perceive to be the least healthy of all packaging materials, according to research conducted by FEVE (the European Glass Packaging Federation) in April 2009.

Mothers believe that environmental concerns affect their packaging choices, but when buying baby foods, their purchase decisions don’t always bear this out, according to the study. Some also feel that brands are using “environmentally- friendly” as a marketing gimmick, although they acknowledge that glass has a right to this claim, being 100% recyclable.
