A career in glass packaging is about mastery, collaboration, and a commitment to transformation. That’s the message three of O-I’s master glass makers shared with middle school students across France during a recent virtual event hosted by the Glass Federation of France.

Amel Messaoudi, Batch & Furnace Manager at O-I Veauche, Emma Santi, Batch & Furnace Manager at O-I Wingles, and Marine Soleilhavoup, a Graduate Engineer in O-I’s European Graduate Program, hosted the virtual session in mid-February for an audience of more than 1000 middle school students. The three shared details about their careers as well as what makes working at O-I so fulfilling.

Students asked dozens of questions, giving the expert glass makers the opportunity to put a spotlight on how O-I values collaboration, teamwork and diversity.

“You learn to be a master glass maker in the field, with the team,” said Amel.

“We rely on experienced people,” Emma echoed. “Together we move forward.”

They also acknowledged that working at O-I gives them opportunities to continually transform their knowledge.

“The professional world is a discovery,” said Amel. “No matter what our backgrounds are, we still have everything to learn.”

Beyond the Q&A session, students had a chance to learn about career opportunities in glass manufacturing through a virtual tour of O-I’s plant in Reims, France. The online tour was produced by MyFuture, an organization dedicated to educating students about careers in trade industries by connecting them with professionals. Students got to see how glass bottles and jars are made.

As a leader in glass packaging manufacturing for more than a century, O-I Glass welcomes the chance to share our values and beliefs with our communities. It’s part of our mission as a sustainable organization to support communities where we operate.
