Pennsylvania State Senator Cris Dush Presents O-I Brockway with ENERGY STAR® Certificate

Pennsylvania State Senator Cris Dush presented the ENERGY STAR® Certificate to O-I’s Brockway facility at a press conference in Brockport, Pennsylvania, today. State Representative Brian Smith was also in attendance. O-I Brockway earned the ENERGY STAR® certification in 2021 and is one of two Pennsylvania manufacturers included in the EPA’s “2021 Most Energy Efficient Manufacturing Plants” list.

Manufacturers must meet strict EPA energy efficiency performance levels to earn the ENERGY STAR certification. The ENERGY STAR designation recognizes superior energy efficiency and signifies that O-I’s Brockway glass manufacturing plant performs in the top 25% of similar facilities nationwide.

“O-I Brockway is one of only 93 U.S. manufacturing plants that earned the EPA’s ENERGY STAR certification in 2021, and it has demonstrated its dedication to cutting energy waste and becoming a sustainable manufacturing facility with a concern for its environmental footprint and impact,” said Sen. Dush (R-25). “Their commitment is saving energy costs while making sustainable glass packaging products, which is good for the company, consumers and our world.”

To earn the ENERGY STAR certification, O-I Brockway increased energy efficiency by improving lehr curves, increasing cullet use, and reducing energy during peak periods. Improving furnace energy stability, incorporating forehearth burners, and adding energy-efficient motors were also factors.

Glass is the perfect material to support a sustainable circular economy. Made from four readily available materials – silica sand, limestone, soda ash, and recycled glass — it is 100% recyclable and infinitely recyclable without losing quality.

Our sustainability journey is about more than what we make – it’s also about how we make it. The ENERGY STAR certification acknowledges our commitments.
