Pennsylvania State Senator Cris Dush presented the ENERGY STAR® Certificate to O-I’s Brockway facility at a press conference in Brockport, Pennsylvania, today. State Representative Brian Smith was also in attendance. O-I Brockway earned the ENERGY STAR® certification in 2021 and is one of two Pennsylvania manufacturers included in the EPA’s « 2021 Most Energy Efficient Manufacturing Plants » list.
Manufacturers must meet strict EPA energy efficiency performance levels to earn the ENERGY STAR certification. The ENERGY STAR designation recognizes superior energy efficiency and signifies that O-I’s Brockway glass manufacturing plant performs in the top 25% of similar facilities nationwide.
“O-I Brockway is one of only 93 U.S. manufacturing plants that earned the EPA’s ENERGY STAR certification in 2021, and it has demonstrated its dedication to cutting energy waste and becoming a sustainable manufacturing facility with a concern for its environmental footprint and impact,” said Sen. Dush (R-25). “Their commitment is saving energy costs while making sustainable glass packaging products, which is good for the company, consumers and our world.”
To earn the ENERGY STAR certification, O-I Brockway increased energy efficiency by improving lehr curves, increasing cullet use, and reducing energy during peak periods. Improving furnace energy stability, incorporating forehearth burners, and adding energy-efficient motors were also factors.
Glass is the perfect material to support a sustainable circular economy. Made from four readily available materials – silica sand, limestone, soda ash, and recycled glass — it is 100% recyclable and infinitely recyclable without losing quality.
Our sustainability journey is about more than what we make – it’s also about how we make it. The ENERGY STAR certification acknowledges our commitments.
