Benefits of Glass, Sustainability in Action

Glass Packaging Healthiest, Most Sustainable for New Bio Amayu Juice Shots

When Grupo AJE (AJE) was developing their new Bio Amayu shots, there was one packaging option that met the criteria of safety, sustainability and health for their product – glass.

O-I Glass designed the 60-ml glass bottles for the innovative new line of Bio Amayu Shots, which are made of natural health supplements and are formulated to bolster immunity. AJE’s BIO Amayu Shots contain natural ingredients and Amazonian superfruits while having no added sugar or preservatives.

“As glass is an inert material, it maintains the quality of the product, avoiding unwanted reactions with nutritional compounds such as vitamins and antioxidant compounds,” said Grupo AJE Global Market Manager Alexander Nano.

Nano said that while polymer-based packaging options on the market offer economic benefits, “they have a high porosity and migration of compounds that affect the sensory characteristics of the product.”

And not only is glass packaging the healthiest option, it’s also sustainable. Not only is it 100% recyclable, but it’s also endlessly recyclable time and time again without losing quality.

Bio Amayu Superfruit Juices are collected and cultivated from the heart of the Amazon by indigenous communities, using sustainable agriculture techniques that help mitigate climate change.

Through its Bio Amayu brand, Grupo AJE works on developing sustainable value chains incorporating super fruits collected by Amazonian communities.

“Grupo AJE, as a one hundred percent Peruvian brand, holds a vision of offering the world products born of biodiversity itself,” said Augusto Bauer, deputy CEO of Grupo AJE, in an article on Mercado Negro. “We are doing something different, which is sustainable and, in addition, builds a relationship with the communities where they can have a business and help us protect the standing forest.”

The new line of immunity-boosting drinks is available in four flavors; “Defense,” containing apple juice, camu camu, natural extract of ginger and eucalyptus; “Energy,” with apple juice, aguaymanto, natural extract of guarana, guayusa, maca, and turmeric; “Vitamin A,” containing carrot, apple, passion fruit, and aguaje juice; and “Antioxidant,” with cranberry juice, apple, acai and natural extract of purple corn.

O-I has documented consumer trends showing an increased interest in foods and beverages supporting a healthier lifestyle.

When shoppers choose food or beverages in glass packaging, they make the clear choice for health, taste and the environment.
